Grand Prix Preview
One of the most exciting races of the season will be staged this weekend, as the Mexican Grand Prix will be staged. The race is also known as the Mexico City Grand Prix, and it will cover a distance of 305.354 km. The race distance is made up by 71 laps, with Max Verstappen holding the dominant record in the race with five victories. Plenty of overtaking opportunities are available across a lap, with the most prominent likely to be at the end of the pit straight into turn one.
All eyes will be on Antonelli this weekend, who could become the youngest F1 world champion in history. The Italian will seal the title with a ninth-place finish, and the chances of that appear high after finishing on the podium in each of the last three rounds. Antonelli produced a championship drive at the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, holding his nerve to finish over ten seconds clear of the remainder of the field. That was his third victory in the last six rounds.
Max Verstappen looked likely to be Antonelli’s biggest danger on Sunday, but the Dutchman encountered issues with his car, meaning that he adopted a two-stop strategy. Despite that, Verstappen has now finished on the podium in each of the last six rounds. Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari was also fast throughout the race, with the driver eventually finishing second for the second race running.
Lewis Hamilton finished back in fourth in the other Ferrari, meaning that the Constructor chipped away at the Mercedes advantage in the Constructors’ Championship. It was another miserable weekend for George Russell, who finished outside of the top five for the third race running. Lando Norris secured a deserved fifth-place finish, and the McLaren has looked stronger as the season has progressed.
The midfield battle continued to go in the direction of the Racing Bulls, with Liam Lawson finishing in the top ten for the third race running. Alpine endured a mixed weekend, with Pierre Gasly picking up a point, but Franco Colapinto retiring with an issue. Haas and Audi will both be chasing improvement in Mexico, with both teams failing to score a point in the U.S.
Mexican Grand Prix Picks
The track will suit the Red Bull this weekend, meaning Verstappen’s dominant record at the Mexican Grand Prix shouldn’t be overlooked. The Dutchman is the most succesful driver at the race, and has won three of the last five editions. His consistency has been incredible this season, despite being in arguably the fourth-fastest car on the grid. Verstappen’s incredible results have seen him finish on the podium in eight of the last nine rounds, recording wins in Singapore and Bahrain over that period.
