Event Preview
The competitive action on the LPGA Tour continues this weekend, as a purse of $3 million will be up for grabs in the Maybank Championship. The Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country hosts the event, with the stroke play event covering 72 holes across the four days of action. 2024 champion Yin Ruoning holds the tournament record score, finishing 23-under when landing success two years ago.
She will hold excellent claims in her bid to regain the title this week. The Chinese star finished as the winner of the recent LPGA Shanghai, finishing a shot clear after shooting four-under in the final round. That was a second straight win on the Tour, while she was also an impressive T4 at the CPKC Women’s Open at the end of August.
Miyu Yamashita is the defending champion, and she should be well-rested after withdrawing from the LPGA Shanghai event two weeks ago. The Japanese star has been a prominent player on the Tour this season, winning the LPGA Classic and the CPKC Women’s Open. Haeran Ryu should also be respected this weekend after winning two majors in 2026.
At a bigger price, Charley Hull should be respected. She is a three-time winner on the tour, and has made the cut in eleven of her 15 starts in 2026. Hull’s confidence should also be high after finishing T22 at the recent Arkansas Championship, which was her first start after guiding Europe to a convincing win at the Solheim Cup.
Maybank Championship LPGA Tour Picks
At massive odds, Hannah Green could be an interesting angle this week. Green was beaten in the playoff at the Maybank Championship 12 months ago, and she has shown some reliable form throughout 2026. Despite missing the cut at the Lotte Championship, the Australian has won twice in 2026, also finishing in the top ten in four of her 15 starts on the LPGA Tour.
