Event Preview
This weekend’s LPGA Tour action is set for Qizhong Garden Golf Club in Shanghai, with a world-class field competing across 6,672 yards in the hope of winning their share of the $2.1 million purse. The last two champions in Shanghai will be in contention this week, and both sit in prominent spots at the top of the betting.
Jeeno Thitkul deserves huge respect at the top of the market, as the defending champion. Thitkul has been in red-hot form this season, having also won the LOTTE Championship at the start of the month. There’s every chance that she will pick up back-to-back Tour wins.
Ruoning Yin will be the hometown favorite this week, as the star bids to record a second victory in three attempts at LPGA Shanghai. She is a former world number one, and has also made her mark in major events. Her strong ball-striking ability makes her a top contender to recapture her crown.
Miyu Yamashita is enjoying a stellar year on the LPGA Tour this season. The Japanese star was last seen finishing a solo third at the LOTTE Championship, concluding the event just four shots off the lead. She has now racked up four consecutive top-ten finishes, and was a recent winner of the CPKC Women’s Open at the end of August.
Alexa Pano will be an interesting alternative to the market leaders this weekend. The American is yet to win on the LPGA Tour since capturing the Handa World Invitational in 2023, but retains plenty of interest if bouncing back after failing to make the cut on her last four starts.
LPGA Shanghai Picks
Jin Young Ko could be a fascinating outsider to consider this weekend. The 31-year-old is a 26-time winner as a professional, and has shown signs of being back to her best in recent months. That includes a T43 finish at the LOTTE Championship, and making the cuts at the AIG Women’s Open and Women’s PGA Championship.
