Event Preview

The action on the FedEx Cup Fall schedule goes overseas this weekend, as the BayCurrent Classic will be staged at the Yokohama Country Club in Japan. A lucrative purse of $8 million will be up for grabs this week, with previous champions such as Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa likely to rank among the leading contenders.

Schauffele will come into the weekend as the defending champion, having won the inaugural edition of the event in its new home 12 months ago. The American is winless on the PGA Tour this year, but that was also the case before his victory last year. His recent form reads more reliable, having finished T14 at the TOUR Championship at the end of August.

Previous course form also strengthens the case of Min Woo Lee this week. The Australian finished T10 at the event last year, and his recent form can’t be ignored. Lee was T4 at the TOUR Championship, and he contributed 2.5 points at the recent Presidents Cup.

Collin Morikawa is another former champion to respect this weekend. His reliable record on Japanese soil was also reflected in a T14 finish 12 months ago. Another former champion worth considering is Hideki Matsuyama, who has racked up T3, T5, T7 and T7 finishes across his last seven starts on the Tour.

BayCurrent Classic Picks

Adam Scott is an eye-catching angle this weekend. The Australian was in excellent form before the Presidents Cup loss, taking a T2 finish at the BMW PGA Championship last month. His consistency should be respected after having finished in the top 20 on his last five starts worldwide.
