Event Preview
Another weekend on the F1 schedule means that the attention will be on yet another street circuit, as Baku hosts the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. This weekend’s race has been staged since 2017, with the drivers completing a race distance of 190.170 miles, which is made up of 51 laps.
Qualifying is vitally important on street circuits, meaning that there will be extra attention on the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2026 pole position odds. The one-lap pace of Mercedes will give Kimi Antonelli and George Russell the advantage, but neither of the drivers have started on pole in two of the last three races.
Antonelli enjoyed a huge slice of luck in Madrid last time out, taking advantage of a safety car to make a quicker stop. That was to the detriment of Lando Norris, who had looked quickest on track but lost crucial positions when stopping under standard race pace.
Norris has looked lightning quick in his McLaren in recent weeks, winning two of the previous four races to reignite his faint hopes of Championship retention. Russell lost further ground on his teammate in the Championship battle on Sunday, finishing only fifth, meaning that Antonelli now has an 81-point advantage over the chasing pack.
It was a weekend to forget for Ferrari, with brake issues forcing Lewis Hamilton out on the second lap. Charles Leclerc could only finish fourth. Max Verstappen was quick throughout the weekend in Spain, finishing second on track to take a third podium in four Grand Prix.
Azerbaijan Grand Prix Picks
Street circuits have typically played to McLaren’s strengths this season, and that could be a key factor to consider this weekend. Therefore, Lando Norris could be the interesting angle to record a third win in five races.
