The race for European success continues this week, as the business end of the competition gets underway with the round of 16. France and Belgium are two of the nations that are yet to hit their top level of performance, meaning that a much better showing will be required if they are to keep alive their hopes of success this summer on Monday.
The French could only finish second in the Group D standings after playing out draws against Poland and the Netherlands following an opening night win over Austria. France are yet to score from open play, with their only goals coming in the forms of an OG and a penalty netted by Kylian Mbappe.

Belgium are also yet to reach their peak level of performance this summer, and they have been booed off in two of their three group stage matches. Their campaign got underway with a defeat in Frankfurt against Slovakia, before edging to a 2-0 win over Romania on matchday two. However, they needed to settle for second in the group after playing out a 0-0 draw against Ukraine last week.
France holds the overall advantage over Belgium, having won all four previous clashes at major tournaments. Over that period, they have netted 13 goals, and they have conceded just three times. However, this will be the first meeting at a major tournament since France’s 5-0 win over Belgium at EURO 1984.
