Match Preview
The final of EURO 2024 will be set on Wednesday following the second semi-final of the week when England comes up against the Netherlands. Gareth Southgate’s side have been well below their best to this point, but they showed excellent character in the previous round to edge past Switzerland following a penalty shootout. The Netherlands also showed their character after netting twice in the final 20 minutes to come back from a goal down against Turkey.
The Netherlands boasts a very impressive record against England after losing just once in the previous nine meetings. England’s only success was a 1-0 win in Amsterdam in March 2018. However, four of the previous nine clashes between the sides have ended in draws. This will be the fourth meeting between the nations at a major tournament, with England winning the previous encounter 4-1 at EURO 1996.

England’s win rate against the Netherlands stands at just 15%, which is their second worst record against a single rival that they have played on 20 or more occasions. However, the Three Lions will be making their fourth appearance at the semi-final stage of the EUROs. Despite losing the first two, they were 2-1 winners against Denmark at Wembley at EURO 2020.
The Netherlands have a very poor record at this stage of the competition after losing four of their last five semi-final matches. This will be their first semi-final appearance since 2004 when they were beaten at this stage. Their only win at this stage was achieved in Germany against the host nation in 1988.
