Match Preview

An exciting clash in the quarterfinal round of EURO 2024 is set for this week, as France and Portugal collide for a place in the final four. Both nations will have their sights set on European glory this summer, and a victory on Friday will set up a mouth-watering semi-final clash with either Germany or Spain next week.

France are yet to hit their top gear at the EUROs this summer to this point, and they are still yet to register a goal from open play. To this point, two of their efforts have come in the forms of own goals, while they have netted just one from the penalty spot. Another own goal secured their place in the last eight, as it was enough to register a 1-0 win over Belgium.

Portugal were flagged up by many as dark horse contenders before the start of the tournament, and they started the EUROs in impressive fashion after winning each of their opening two matches. However, they struggled in front of goal in their round of 16 tie against Slovenia on Monday, needing a penalty shootout to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

This tie represents a rematch from the 2016 final in Paris, which saw Portugal upset the host nation following a dramatic period of extra time. However, that success remains Portugal’s only win over France in 14 international matches since April 1975.

Portugal vs France Prediction

Despite needing penalties in the last round, Portugal still created a handful of chances in their match against Slovenia. Therefore, we could see an upset on the cards in this quarterfinal showdown, with one of the pre-tournament favorites being dumped out.
