Match Preview
Despite being given assurances surrounding his future in the summer, Erik ten Hag’s position at Man United is back under the microscope. A heavy 3-0 loss against Tottenham on Sunday did little to ease his position, as the Red Devils have now conceded six goals without reply in their last two league matches at Old Trafford.
United have an impressive record against Portuguese sides, having avoided defeat in their last 12 matches since a loss against Benfica in December 2005. A total of 23 goals have been scored across United’s last four away matches in Europe, with the Red Devils netting three times in each of their last three without managing to record a win.

Porto have made a strong start to the domestic season after winning six from seven. However, they were unable to gain a victory in their Europa League opener after falling to a 3-2 defeat against Bodo/Glimt. It wasn’t for the lack of trying in that showdown, recording 28 shots, which was their most since March 2019.
The Portuguese side have won each of their last three home matches across major European competitions. They have also won two of their eight European matches against Man United. The most recent was won by United in the quarterfinals of the 2008-09 Champions League.
FC Porto vs. Man United Picks
Based on their recent performances, United shouldn’t be the favorites for this trip to Portugal. The Red Devils are easy to oppose, and I’d be willing to side with Porto winning by a commanding margin in the Europa League on Thursday.
