Game Preview

Aston Villa could be on course to make a late charge for a European place in the Premier League. Emery’s side sits seventh in the current standings, but they could move up to sixth with a home victory against Forest this weekend. Villa’s recent form has been excellent, as they have registered five wins from their last six, including three on the bounce coming into the weekend.

Ollie Watkins has been in outstanding form for the Villa in the final third, as he scored for the sixth away game running against Leicester in midweek. That has taken the striker’s tally for the season to eleven goals in 28 games, and he looks set to be a vital player once again this weekend.

Nottingham Forest resumed the season after the World Cup in excellent form, but their standards have dropped in recent weeks. They come into this away fixture after a loss on the road against Leeds, which was their fourth defeat in their previous six league matches. Forest now sits outside of the bottom three on only goal difference.

Forest hasn’t fared well in clashes against fellow sides from the Midlands away from home in the Premier League, as they have failed to win in their last nine since a 3-0 win against Coventry in August 1996. Furthermore, they have lost each of their last six, and have failed to score in the previous five.

Prediction

This could be one of the more straightforward games to predict this weekend. Villa’s excellent recent form is a massive bonus, while they have lost just once in their previous 14 league matches against Forest. We could also see Watkins maintaining his excellent run of form with another goal.
