Game Preview

Fulham raced out of the blocks against Bournemouth on Saturday, scoring after only 16 minutes and dominating the first half. Bournemouth equalized just five minutes after the restart though, and from that moment there was only one side likely to win the encounter. Without star forward Aleksandar Mitrovic the Cottagers were toothless in attack, and it was no surprise when Dominic Solanke bundled in the hosts’ winner after 79 minutes.

West Ham’s defending bordered on comical at times during their heavy 1-5 defeat against Newcastle on Wednesday. With his side trailing 1-2 at halftime, manager David Moyes could only look on in despair as his defense gifted a goal to the opposition immediately following the restart. Nayef Aguerd hesitated when receiving a pass from goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, allowing Jacob Murphy to steal the ball and square for Callum Wilson to tap in. Worse followed in the 82nd minute when the Polish keeper rushed from his goal only to miscontrol a long ball and allow Alexander Isak to execute a lobbed finish into the empty net. By the time Joelinton scored the fifth goal after 90 minutes, the stadium was less than half full.

Prediction

The pressure is building on West Ham manager David Moyes and a defeat here could seal his fate. Fulham’s form is dreadful however so it seems likely that Moyes may get a reprieve, for this week at least.
