Match Preview
Two sides with a lot of questions to answer this season will lock horns on the opening weekend at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea finished in their lowest league position of the modern era last term, but Mauricio Pochettino has cleared the decks at the club since arriving. Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, and Cesar Azpilicueta have all been sold, and Chelsea have continued to invest in younger stars, with Nicolas Jackson, Axel Disasi, and Christopher Nkunku all brought in.
However, the Blues will be without the latter for the opening two months of the campaign. Chelsea boasts an excellent record on the opening day of the season, as no side in the Premier League has picked up more wins or points than the Blues. However, each of the previous four clashes between the sides in all competitions have ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Liverpool have also overseen a massive rebuild over the summer, with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson both sold to the Middle East, and Alexis Mac Alister and Dominik Szoboszlai brought in to replace the outgoing stars. However, Jurgen Klopp will still need further reinforcements if the Reds are going to force their way back into the top four, as they don’t have a first-team defensive midfielder registered.
Liverpool haven’t lost on the opening day in ten seasons, as they have won eight of their last ten matchday one fixtures in the Premier League since a 3-0 loss against West Bromwich Albion in 2012-13. It promises to be a tight match based on the fact that each of the last six meetings between the sides across all competitions have ended in draws.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Prediction
Both of these teams have huge questions to answer this season, and neither have enjoyed the most reliable of summers. It will be a fascinating showdown at Stamford Bridge, but the slight preference is for Chelsea to kick off the campaign with a win.
