Match Preview

There will be no love lost at Molineux on Saturday, as two fierce rivals from the West Midlands collide. Wolves were hammered in their previous outing by Brighton, but they look safe from the threat of relegation at this stage, as they sit seven above the drop zone. The team from the Black Country has won three of their previous five, which includes victories in each of their last three at Molineux.

Their home form has been the biggest factor in their survival push, as they will be looking to win four in a row in the top-flight for the first time since 1975 this weekend. Meanwhile, they haven’t kept clean sheets in four straight victories at home since 1969. However, Wolves have the lowest win percentage of any team in the Premier League in May, having won just six from 22 matches.

Aston Villa’s push for a European finish was halted slightly last weekend, as they were beaten 1-0 at Old Trafford by Manchester United. However, they will be confident of getting back on track this weekend after winning four of their previous six matches. But, Villa will be wary of the fact that they have failed to win each of their last two on the road.

This hasn’t been the best fixture for Villa in recent seasons, as they have lost two of their previous three visits to Molineux. However, that is as many defeats as they had suffered in their previous 15 visits in the English top-flight. Villa has also failed to win in four league matches against Wolves, which is their longest winless sequence against their rivals since 1961.

Wolves vs Aston Villa Prediction

This promises to be an action-packed meeting between the two sides this weekend, with both chasing a win to edge closer toward their objective for the season. However, we feel that there is value in siding with the hosts, as they have won two of their previous four against Villa at Molineux, and boast an excellent home record under Lopetegui.
