Match Preview

The real action gets underway at the Women’s World Cup on Saturday, as the round of 16 matches begin. There will be pressure on Spain, as they were one of the pre-tournament favorites to win the competition. However, they were forced to settle for second in Group C after falling to a dismal 4-0 loss in their final match against Japan on Monday.

Spain dominated the possession in that match, but they didn’t trouble the Japanese goal throughout. Furthermore, it was the heaviest defeat that Spain has ever recorded at the Women’s World Cup, and was the second largest winning margin for an Asian nation over a European rival at the competition. But, the Spanish remains a key contender in the tournament when they are at their very best.

Switzerland will be the huge outsiders in the betting for this round of 16 clash, despite the fact that they were able to top a tricky-looking Group A, which also included New Zealand and Norway. Much of their success so far this summer has been built on their defensive line, as they have kept three clean sheets at the tournament.

However, they were cautious in their final two matches in the group, as they looked happy to settle for 0-0 draws against both Norway and New Zealand. Switzerland will need to be more adventurous in this round of 16 tie, as it is hugely unlikely that they will keep the Spanish attack out for the entirety of the match.

Switzerland vs Spain Prediction

There will be pressure on Spain to bounce back after their no-show against Japan in their final group stage match. We still have confidence behind this Spanish side, and we could see them getting back on track with a huge win to reach the quarterfinals.
