There is no bigger sporting event in the world than the Super Bowl, and that often means that it is a huge betting occasion. Like huge events such as the Kentucky Derby and the Grand National, the Super Bowl entices gamblers who don’t typically wager their money to make a bet for the huge event.

There are various sportsbooks available for gamblers to make these wagers, but one of the best places that gamblers often look towards are the Vegas odds from Las Vegas itself – the heart. Sportsbooks such as Caesars and MGM often offer prices on the Super Bowl, but who are the current favorites with these sportsbooks, and what were the Super Bowl odds in Vegas for the last three events?

This year we see the Los Angeles Rams take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl, and it’s the Rams who opened as the favorites. They are seen to have the stronger roster on both sides of the ball and they will also have home advantage with the game being played at SoFi Stadium, but the Bengals have already upset the odds multiple times to get this far.

Have The Vegas Super Bowl Odds Been Accurate In The Past?

The best way to examine whether the Vegas odds could be accurate in predicting the winner of the Super Bowl this year is to examine whether they were accurate in the past couple of seasons. Here, we will examine the favorites for the Super Bowls from between 2018 and 2020 and see whether the outright favorites heading into the post-season were accurate.

Vegas Odds Super Bowl LV

Super Bowl LV was seen as a close one between the Buccaneers and the Chiefs, but it was Tampa Bay who opened as a three-point favorite, possible due to the home advantage they also enjoyed. In the end, they ran out easy winners as the Bucs defense terrorized Patrick Mahomes and held the Chiefs to only nine points in a 31-9 victory.

Vegas Odds Super Bowl LIV

Caesars had the favourites for the winners of Super Bowl LIV as the Baltimore Ravens at the end of 2019, as they were priced at +200. However, the Ravens didn’t even make the Super Bowl last season as the Tennessee Titans beat them in the divisional playoffs in the AFC. The Super Bowl’s eventual winners were the second favorites, as Caesars had odds of +300 on the Chiefs. The third favorites in the betting were the San Francisco 49ers, who were beaten by the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Vegas Odds Super Bowl LIII

The odds with MGM for the Super Bowl in 2019 were correct, as they valued the New England Patriots as the 6/1 favorites to win. Of course, we know now that a stake on that wager would have returned as they went on to win one of the dullest Super Bowls in history against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams were the joint-second favorites in the odds with MGM, as they were valued at 10/1 alongside the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings.

Vegas Odds Super Bowl LII

The odds in Vegas once again had the New England Patriots as the heavy favorites in November 2017 for Super Bowl LII. The Patriots were set at a price of 5/2 with the leading sportsbooks in Vegas. However, gamblers and American Football fans would be aware that the Patriots didn’t go on to win the Super Bowl in that year as they were beaten in Minnesota by the Philadelphia Eagles in one of the most dramatic Super Bowls. The Eagles were the second-favorites with the Vegas odds as they had a price of 4/1. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings had prices of 6/1 and 10/1, respectively.
