However, many smaller nations are expected to struggle this summer, meaning that they rank among the leading contenders to be the lowest-scoring team. You can find the odds and our pick to be the lowest scoring team at the World Cup here.

Lowest Scoring Team Contenders
Curacao
Dick Advocaat has already worked a miracle to get Curacao to a World Cup, with the nation becoming the smallest in history to reach the global spectacle. The nation is widely expected to struggle after being drawn in a very tricky Group E alongside Germany, Ecuador, and the Ivory Coast.
However, it could be worth noting that while they have lost three of their matches in 2026, they have at least scored in back-to-back defeats against Australia and Scotland.
Haiti
Haiti will be playing in their second World Cup this summer, and it will be their first appearance since 1974. Like Curacao, it is easy to see why they are toward the top of the betting to be the lowest scoring team after being given a challenging run of group stage fixtures.
However, their attacking quality dazzled in a recent 4-0 win against New Zealand, and I sense that they could outperform their odds on matchday one against Scotland.
Iraq
Out of the nations will a testing group, Iraq could be the most vulnerable. The nation will play against Senegal, France, and Norway in the opening round. Each of their group stage opponents boast excellent defensive and offensive records, meaning there is an expectation that Iraq will suffer three straight heavy losses.
However, they have shown that they could outperform expectations this summer, beating Bolivia in an upset earlier in the year in the Playoff, and recently earning a very credible draw against Spain.
World Cup Picks: Who Will Be The Lowest Scoring Team?
Many of the top selections in the betting are unknown quantities, meaning that I’d be prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. New Zealand will instead be the play at +1500.
The All Whites have never won a match at the World Cup, and they have failed to score in three of their last four internationals, which includes a 2-0 loss against Finland and a 4-0 defeat against Haiti. They will face higher-ranked nations in Group G, and we could expect them to lose all three matches by at least two-goal margins.
