Race Preview
The final graded action at the Breeders’ Cup this year will be the Sprint over six furlongs. This race boasts a purse of $1 million, and the defending champion from last year’s race will be back to defend his crown.
Elite Power was excellent at Keeneland last year, and he has followed up that success this term by winning three from four starts. His only defeat came over slightly longer at Saratoga, meaning the drop back in trip only furthers his chances on Saturday. Irad Ortiz takes the ride, and he has won two from five rides in the Sprint.

Gunite’s recent win over Elite Power does appear strong form on paper, but he was also beaten by the same rival over six furlongs in the G1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt. His latest start saw him finish second over a mile at Parx in the Dirt Mile Stakes. The drop back shouldn’t be a concern, but others look more likely this weekend.
Speed Boat Beach could be one of the more progressive runners this weekend for Bob Baffert. The three-year-old was beaten over six furlongs at Santa Anita by Dr. Schivel on his previous start, but the run of the race didn’t really favor him on that day, and a renewed bid is likely on Saturday.
Breeders’ Cup Sprint Prediction
Elite Power appears to be the most likely winner based on form over six furlongs. However, The Chosen Vron could be an interesting contender at the prices. The five-year-old has won on each of his previous five starts, including twice over course and distance. This is a significant step up in opposition, but he is well worth his chance based on the form of his win in the G1 Bing Crosby Stakes.
