The feature on the card at Belmont at the Big A this weekend is the G2 Sands Point Stakes. This race is for fillies aged three, with a total distance of a 1 1/8 miles being covered. Chad Brown has an excellent record in this race, as the American has trained the winner on five previous occasions.
Brown’s runner this weekend comes in the form of Root Cause. The three-year-old has struggled for wins throughout her career to this point, having landed just a single win from five career starts. However, she was a winner over this distance in March, and was last seen finishing a creditable second in the Virginia Oaks with a speed rating of 92.
Eternal Hope certainly looks an interesting international contender this weekend, having landed victory in the G3 Jockey Club Oaks on her previous start. She needed to be at her best on that day for trainer Charlie Appleby, as she battled to finish a neck clear of Neecie Marie. But, it could be argued that the distance could be a concern this weekend.
Alpha Bella is an interesting turf runner for Todd Pletcher this weekend, as connections were delighted with her effort in the Virginia Oaks last month. However, a considerable step up is required based on the fact that she finished behind Root Cause at Colonial Downs.
Sands Point Stakes Prediction
This appears to be a wide-open contest at Aqueduct this weekend. However, Eternal Hope looks to be the most exciting runner in the field, and she could prove a commanding winner at Aqueduct this weekend.
