Match Preview

The G1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup has been a Grade One affair since 1991, and it is regarded as one of the most important prep races with the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf in mind. Last year’s winner was G1 1,000 victor Mawj, who would later take second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile.

She Feels Pretty will wear first team blinkers for trainer Cherie DeVaux this weekend. The filly was the winner of the Hilltop Stakes in May, before coming up short on her last two runs, including when a close second behind reappearing rival Grayosh in the G2 Lake Placid.

Despite holding a victory over She Feels Pretty, Grayosh is overlooked in the betting for trainer Chad Brown this weekend. Candala brings some very high quality European form to the table this weekend, most recently finishing third behind Friendly Soul in the G2 Prix Alec Head. Leading chance, if taking to better ground.

Oversubscribed also has leading claims for the team of Irad Ortiz and Chad Brown this weekend. The three-year-old has won two from four starts, and is yet to finish outside of the first two. She was the winner of the Wild Applause in June, before finishing a close second in the G3 Lake George.

Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Picks

I’m a big fan of Soprano for George Boughey and Billy Loughnane this weekend. The three-year-old has competed at the highest level in Europe this season, finishing a very close third behind arguably the most talented filly on the turf in the form of Porta Fortuna in the G1 Matron Stakes last month.

Has form on good ground, and looks more than capable of giving her jockey a first win at the highest level on Saturday.
