  • The Heat came up short in Game 1, losing by a score of 104-93.
  • Denver controlled the game from start to finish in the win.
  • The Nuggets are 3-0 on this season as a whole against Miami.

The Nuggets (66-32) and the Heat (56-45) face off in Game 2 of the 2023 NBA Finals. Denver improved to 9-0 at home in the postseason, providing Miami with an uphill battle to avoid another loss in Game 2.

Preview

Miami had trouble scoring in their loss in Game 1, managing to produce just 63 points in the first 3 quarters of the game. They trailed by double digits for much of the contest, never really threatening the Nuggets. The Heat did outscore Denver 30-20 in a garbage-time 4th quarter, but could find something positive from that to work on in Game 2. They need Max Strus, who went 0 for 9 from 3-pt range, to play much better.

The Nuggets dominated at home once again, easily beating the Heat to take a 1-0 lead in the series. They got some stellar performances from their key players. Nikola Jokić finished with 27 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds. Jamal Murray scored 26 points and added 10 assists, and Michael Porter Jr. tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds. Denver really just needs to keep doing what they’ve been doing this entire postseason.

Picks

Denver is now 43-7 at home overall, and 9-0 at home in the postseason. They have been nothing short of exceptional on their home court, which they’ll remain on for Game 2 of this series. While I could see Miami picking up a win at home in Game 3 or 4, I doubt they’ll be able to break the Nuggets home winning streak in this game. I’ll take Denver to win it 111-100, earning a 2-0 lead in the series as they head to Miami next.
