Detroit Lions 2023-24 NFL Playoff Odds and Prediction
- The Lions came up just short of making the playoffs last season.
- They are projected to win the NFC North for the first time since 1993.
- QB Jared Goff will aim to repeat last year’s breakout performance in 2023.
As the 2023-24 NFL season approaches, let’s take a look at the Detroit Lions’ playoff odds and weigh their chances of making the postseason this year. They have a good chance to make it after improving in 2022.
Playoff Odds
Team News
The Lions missed the playoffs last season on an unfortunate tiebreaker with Seattle, but still finished above .500 for the first time since 2017. They’re finally moving in the right direction under head coach Dan Campbell, after a 30-year drought without a division title. As one of the only four teams without a single Super Bowl appearance, Detroit will once again be feeling the pressure to exceed expectations in 2023.
Detroit enters this season as the favorite to win the NFC North. Aaron Rodgers departed Green Bay, and the Vikings collapsed down the stretch last year. The Lions boast a defense led by DE Aiden Hutchinson, and an offense that now features RB Jahmyr Gibbs and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. If Jared Goff is able to play at the same level as last year, this Lions team should reach at least 10 wins. I see them going 10-7.
Prediction
The Lions were extremely close to cracking the playoff field last season, and only improved over the offseason. I expect this to be a breakthrough year for Detroit, with them competing for the division title. Ultimately, it won’t be easy to end their 30-year drought, but even if the Lions don’t win the NFC North, they can still make the playoffs. In a very weak NFC conference, I would be surprised if they miss the field.
