Game Preview
The Raiders suffered from a combination of poor play calling and poor execution during their week 3 loss to the Steelers and coach Josh McDaniels will be looking for improvements here. QB Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a concussion during the game and whilst the team is optimistic he will clear protocols in time for Sunday’s matchup it wouldn’t be surprising if he missed out. Brian Hoyer or rookie Aiden O’Connell will be under center should Jimmy G fail to play. Star edge rusher Max Crosby was limited in practice on Wednesday and should he miss out the Raiders’ defense would be considerably worse off.
The Los Angeles Chargers are anticipating the return of their running back, Austin Ekeler, who has resumed practicing after being out for two weeks due to an ankle injury. With the loss of wide receiver Mike Williams for the season during their recent win against the Minnesota Vikings, the team is looking forward to having another offensive weapon back on the field. Keenan Allen has been performing well this season, with 32 out of 39 receptions for 402 yards and 2 touchdowns, which is more than half of what he managed in 10 games last year.
Prediction
Whenever the Raiders play in Los Angeles, the crowd tends to be unfriendly towards the home team due to the significant and devoted Raiders fan base in California. If the Raider Nation shows up for this game, they may end up disappointed as I predict a Chargers win, potentially by a considerable margin.
