Game Preview
Star running back Jonathan Taylor only played 10 snaps in his return to the field last week when the Colts beat the Titans. However, head coach Shane Steichen has confirmed that Taylor will play more in week 6 when Indianapolis faces off against Jacksonville. In Taylor’s absence, his backup Zack Moss has been fantastic, with 23 carries for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns last week. Moss will likely get a decent amount of playing time going forward even with Taylor’s return. Unfortunately, quarterback Anthony Richardson was injured in their week 5 win and is expected to miss 4-8 weeks. Gardner Minshew will take over until Richardson is healthy again, which could mean that WR Michael Pittman becomes the primary target again instead of Josh Downs.
The Jaguars returned from their two-week trip to the United Kingdom with two victories and lots of momentum. Although their week 5 win over the Bills might have been unexpected, it was well-deserved by Jacksonville. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 25 out of 37 passes for 315 yards and one touchdown. Meanwhile, running back Travis Etienne had an excellent performance with his best stats of the season. The 24-year-old third-year star rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries and also contributed 48 yards on four receptions. If the Jaguars continue to play at this level, they will be a serious contender for a Superbowl run.
Prediction
I like the Colts, and with Taylor back they could be one of the most under rated teams in the NFL right now. That said, the Jaguars are playing at a different level right now and will be very hard to beat. I expect a back-and-forth encounter with some tough defense and electrifying offense. The Jags will sneak this one and keep their good form going though.
