  • The Bears lost 13-30 to the Chargers on Sunday.
  • The Saints defeated the Colts 38-27 in week 8.
  • These teams last met in January 2021 in the NFC Wild Card game which the Saints won 9-21.

The 2-6 Chicago Bears take on the 4-4 New Orleans Saints in this week 9 matchup. The Bears have struggled for form this season and travel to face a Saints team who are beginning to find their feet with new QB Derek Carr.

Game Preview

The Bears will once again be without QB Justin Fields as he continues his recovery from a dislocated thumb. Tyson Bagent will continue under center in his absence. RB Khalil Herbert is still on the IR and cannot return until at least week 11. D’Onta Foreman and Roschon Johnson will continue to split the backfield work for the time being. Chicago traded for Washington Commanders’ DE Montez Sweat on deadline day and he is set to make his debut here.

Derek Carr recorded his best game as a Saint in their 38-27 win over the Colts in week 8. The veteran QB threw 19/27 completions for 310 yards and 2 touchdowns and looked as comfortable in the new jersey as he has all season. RB Alvin Kamara rushed for 59 yards and a score on 17 attempts and also snared 4 receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. Jack of all trades Taysum Hill played his usual mix of QB/RB/TE and found the end zone twice in the process.

Prediction

New Orleans is in a very winnable division and the coming weeks could be telling for their playoff chances. I see them getting the job done here with relative ease against a poor Chicago team.
