Game Preview
The Buccaneers succumbed to a 18-24 defeat at the hands of Buffalo on Thursday night. The Tampa Bay offense was relatively successful through the air but stifled on the ground by a tough defense. Rachaad White managed only 9 carries for 39 yards but the sophomore RB did haul in all 7 targets thrown his way for an additional 70 yards. WR Mike Evans looks on pace to complete his 10th straight 1000+ yard season. The 30-year-old has 33 receptions for 507 yards and 5 touchdowns so far this season.
The Texans handed the Panthers their first win of the season on Sunday as they fell to a 13-15 defeat. Quarterback C.J. Stroud was overshadowed by his opposite number Bryce Young and the team as a whole were disappointing. RB Dameon Pierce missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday this week and unless his status changes it seems likely he will miss week 9. Veteran WR Robert Woods also seems set to sit out a second game with a foot injury.
Prediction
These two teams boast terrific defenses, with their average points allowed per game a miserly 18.3 a-piece. Houston’s offense has been marginally better than Tampa Bay’s this season so we have to side with a Texans win here.
