Playoff Odds
Team News
The 49ers managed to make the NFC Championship Game last season, despite some uncertainty at the QB position. The expected starter entering the season was Trey Lance, who San Francisco traded away three 1st-round picks to have the ability to select with a 4th 1st-round pick. After an inconsistent first couple of seasons, Lance was unseated by the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, rookie QB Brock Purdy.
San Francisco got great play from Purdy as a rookie, and now seems to favor him over Lance. No matter who is under center, the true strength of the 49ers lies in their stacked roster. Last season, they got even more dangerous when they traded for Christian McCaffrey. With one of the NFL’s best defenses, and weapons like McCaffrey, Kittle, and Samuel, the 49ers should be a real Super Bowl contender once again.
Prediction
The 49ers started last season 3-4, before winning 10 straight games to close out the regular season at 13-4. They looked like the best team in the NFC, before being overwhelmed by the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game, losing 31-7. Despite that brutal final loss, the 49ers still made it clear how strong they were last year. With a similar roster in 2023, they should win 12+ games and make the playoffs again.
