Match Preview

PSG start a new era in the Champions League on Wednesday without influential striker Kylian Mbappe. However, the early signs for Luis Enrique’s side this term have been largely positive after achieving an unbeaten start to the campaign. But, they face an unknown quantity in their European opener on Wednesday, as Girona will be making their debut in the competition.

The Spanish side will be the 44th opponent that PSG have come up against, but the French side have won six of their last seven matches against new opponents in the competition. Meanwhile, only one first-time visitor to the Parc des Princes has landed victory of the last 28 away teams.

As mentioned previously, this will be Girona’s first match in the Champions League. Malaga were the previous debutants in the competition from Spain, with each of the last three teams from the country making their maiden appearance have successfully qualified for the knockout stage.

However, this is a tough assignment for the Spanish visitors. PSG have suffered just one home defeat in their last 36 matches in the competition during the group stage. Meanwhile, the Parisians netted ten goals in the opening 15 minutes of the second period in the previous campaign, highlighting that could be an important period of the game on Wednesday.

PSG vs Girona Picks

It is hard to overlook PSG’s home record in the group stage when making picks on Wednesday. For that reason, we will be siding with Luis Enrique’s side claiming maximum points on matchday one.
