Game Preview

Inter Milan already appears to have one foot in the next round of the Champions League. The Italian giants were in excellent form in their opening leg in Portugal, as they claimed a straightforward 2-0 success over Benfica. Nicola Barella opened the scoring after 51 minutes. Before the gloss was put on the win with eight minutes remaining by Romelu Lukaku.

Inter last reached this stage of the competition in 2010-11. However, they were easily beaten over two legs by Schalke. It appears to be a different story this season. Their chances are also aided by the fact that they are unbeaten in their last four knockout games in the Champions League.

It could be argued that Benfica has spurned their best chance of getting through to the last four, as their home leg was crucial toward their chances. The pressure certainly looked to get to Benfica in the opening leg. They managed just two shots on target, despite having the majority of the possession.

Defensively, the Portuguese side has questions to answer, as they have now conceded in each of their last four European games. Meanwhile, it looks improbable that they will make it through to the next round, as they have failed to win in four previous clashes with Inter Milan.

Prediction

I think this is the most straightforward of the Champions League second legs. Inter was excellent in the first meeting between the sides, and we fully expect them to complete the job on Wednesday. Furthermore, at +110, they are excellent value.
