Match Preview
A fascinating clash is set for the Europa League playoff round on Thursday. Roma will have the important home advantage in the second leg against Porto after finishing ahead of their opponents in the league phase. The Italian club won three of their eight matches in the opening round, and salvaged their form after winning twice across the last three matchdays.
Porto still remain a leading contender in the competition this term, despite having to play away from home in the second leg. The Portuguese club have also won two of their last three in Europe, but they were made to pay for making a slow start to the Europa League after winning just once across the opening five matchday.

Porto boast a fine record against Roma across all European competitions after winning three of their last six against their opponents. However, this is the first meeting between the teams since Porto secured a 3-1 win in the knockout tie in March 2019.
However, it could be alarming that all three previous ties between these sides have been won by the Portuguese side. The latest of those came in the 2018-19 Champions League last 17. But, it should be noted that Porto have won just five of their last 25 knockout stage matches in Europe.
Roma also have a poor record that they will need to overcome. The Italian side have won just three of their last 19 away matches in the Europa League, with a staggering 14 of their last 15 wins coming on home soil. Furthermore, Claudio Ranieri has lost nine of his previous eleven knockout stage matches in Europe.
Porto vs. Roma Picks
The trends don’t look good for Roma this week, as they have constantly struggled at this stage of the competition. For that reason, it looks safer to side with FC Porto picking up a first leg advantage this week.
