One of the most intense fixtures in world soccer will be staged at Goodison Park this weekend, as Everton welcome Liverpool to Goodison Park for the final time. Both Merseyside clubs come into this round after fine midweek performances.

Liverpool’s advantage at the top of the Premier League standings was cut in midweek to seven points after the Reds dropped points following a pulsating 3-3 draw at Newcastle.

However, the Reds remain in an excellent position to win a second Premier League title this season after losing just once in their opening 14 matches this term.

Everton had reason to celebrate in midweek after moving up to 15^th in the standings with an excellent 4-0 home win over Wolves. The victory ended a four-game winless sequence, and a shock win this weekend could see them move up a further place.

Everton will take inspiration from this exact fixture last season after securing a 2-0 win at Goodison Park against the Reds in April. However, the Toffees haven’t won successive Merseyside derbies since 1984-85.

Liverpool’s 12-game unbeaten record on the road against Everton was ended last season, but they haven’t suffered successive defeats at Goodison since losing three on the bounce between 1992 and 1994.

The Reds also have an excellent record in this kick off slot after avoiding defeat in all eight of their matches since the start of last season. On the other hand, Everton have failed to win in each of their last six early kick offs in the Premier League.
