Game Preview
Shelton has had a very confident run so far in Arizona. He looked confident against solid rivals. In the first round, the young American beat Navone, then sliced Karen Khachanov and finally eliminated Brandon Nakashima last night.
All the wins were in straight sets. Against Nakashima, Shelton had 26 winners compared to only nine his rival posted. So it’s evident that he controlled the match and dictated the pace.
As for Draper, he wants to rebound following a loss to Andrey Rublev in the Doha finals. He too was very confident here at Indian Wells, where he eliminated Fonseca, Brooksby and Taylor Fritz without a set dropped.
Believe it or not, he had more aces than Fritz 8-6, which is a bit interesting. Also, the Australian didn’t allow his rival to have a single break point, while on the other side, he converted one in four attempts.
