Fight Preview
Just five months after producing a contender for Fight of the Year, Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley are primed to do battle once again this weekend. Dubois will defend his WBO heavyweight title against Wardley, with the challenger losing for the first time as a professional in the first bout between the Brits in May.
However, the result only tells half of the story. Wardley was the dominant fighter in the first clash, knocking down Dubois twice before the champion regained his title with a devastating finish in the eleventh round.
It was undeniable before the first showdown that Dubois boasted the better past performances, having beaten Anthony Joshua and Filip Hrgovic inside the distance, before suffering a fifth-round loss against the dominant force in the heavyweight division, Oleksandr Usyk in July 2025.
In fact, two of Dubois’ three career defeats have come against the undisputed king, with the other coming back in November 2020 when he was shockingly beaten by Joe Joyce.
While Wardley may not have the same A-List names on his record, he is certainly a fighter who seems to be improving every time he is in the ring. His best career win to date came against Joseph Parker in October 2025, becoming only the second heavyweight to stop the talented Kiwi, which is something Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua both failed to achieve.
Wardley’s power will undeniably be a key to the fight once again on Saturday, and if he lands a heavy blow in the opening exchanges, Dubois may not recover this time.
Daniel Dubois vs. Fabio Wardley Picks
If this weekend’s fight matches the original, then it will be an unmissable event. Both men will be targeting statement wins, meaning that the hard punches will be thrown throughout the contest.
However, Dubois admitted that he may have underestimated Wardley in the first fight, and there’s an argument that he will be more suited to the challenge now that he knows what’s coming. Therefore, I like the chances of the champion retaining the gold inside the distance.
