Fight Preview

The WBC welterweight title will be defended in Las Vegas in mid-September, as Conor Benn challenges Ryan Garcia. Benn has been the number one challenger since December, despite having not fought in the division since February 2024.

The 29-year-old, son of legendary boxer Nigel Benn, bounced back emphatically from a first professional defeat against Chris Eubank Jr in April 2025 to gain revenge on his long-time rival in November. He produced another excellent display on his return to the ring in 2026, professionally beating Regis Prograis by unanimous decision in April.

However, this will be Benn’s biggest challenge to date in the welterweight division. Garcia is a former interim lightweight champion, and King Ry landed the WBC welterweight title with an excellent win against Mario Barrios earlier this year.

Questions could be asked of his recent form in the ring, with a first KO loss coming against Gervonta Davis in April 2023, before he was beaten by Rolando Romero via unanimous decision for the WBA welterweight title in May 2025. However, his staggering record highlights his knockout prowess, with 20 of his 25 victories coming inside 12 rounds.

Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn Picks

A grudge fight in Las Vegas just days before Mexican Independence Day is set. Benn shouldn’t be underestimated back in the division after excelling in bouts against the taller Eubank in recent years. However, Garcia’s power could prove crucial, as he looks good value to score a victory inside the 12 rounds.
