Fight Preview

The vacant WBC lightweight title will be up for grabs in Las Vegas at the start of August, as Lamont Roach Jr and William Zepeda collide in Sin City.

American star Roach Jr will be red-hot favorite based on the VegasOdds. The Reaper has won 25 of his 29 professional bouts, with three of his contests ending in draws. He is a former super featherweight title holder, but his recent bouts have largely been frustrating following back-to-back majority draws against Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz.

Despite recent draws, Roach Jr is now unbeaten in his last eight fights since losing to Jamel Herring for the WBO super featherweight title in November 2019.

Mexican fighter William Zepeda will be a fascinating contender in this fight. The 30-year-old previously held the WBC interim lightweight title between 2024 and 2025, and he has suffered just one career defeat in 34 bouts.

His sole loss came via unanimous decision against Shakur Stevenson in July 2025. Prior to that loss, the Mexican had been a dominant knockout specialist, with 27 of his 33 victories coming inside the distance.

Lamont Roach Jr vs. William Zepeda Picks

The VegasOdds could be the wrong way around for this bout. Zepeda’s ability to end the fight with one punch will be a main part of his game plan, and his height and reach advantage will ensure that he will create openings against Roach Jr. Therefore, the Mexican is preferred to win the vacant gold.
