Event Preview

The eyes of the golfing world will be locked on Pennsylvania this week, as the second major of 2026 comes in the form of the PGA Championship. Scottie Scheffler will be a red-hot favorite to retain the major, but it is worth noting that only four defending champions have gone back-to-back.

Despite that, Scheffler ticks plenty of the desired trend boxes this weekend, including being an American national, and having previous major form this calendar year after finishing second at The Masters. Scheffler has also achieved top ten finishes in five of the last six PGA Championships.

Rory McIlroy will be aiming to win a second major in 2026 after famously winning the Masters last month. However, the Northern Irishman faded quickly at last weekend’s Truist Championship, and he hasn’t been competitive at the PGA Championship since winning in 2014.

If there is to be a European winner this year, it could be hard to overlook in-form stars such as Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick. The latter is already a two-time winner on the PGA Tour in 2026, and he has finished in the top eight in two of the last four editions of the major.

Xander Schauffele won the PGA Championship back in 2024, and finished The Masters in reliable form. However, his recent appearances have been slightly underwhelming, finishing two-over at the Truist Championship to finish T60 last weekend.

At a bigger price, I do like the chances of Sam Burns this weekend. The American ticks plenty of the desired trends for the PGA Championship, and was excellent when T7 at the Masters last month. Will likely need to make a fast start, and his record at the major has seen him yet to finish in the top ten. However, as a +7000 chance, he is an outsider.

PGA Championship Picks

We are going to keep the faith with Cameron Young after putting him up for The Masters last month. The American still finished inside the top ten at Augusta, and his form has reached new heights since then, winning the Miami Championship and finishing 10th at last weekend’s Truist Championship. Young finished third in the 2022 PGA Championship, and he has finished in the top five in two of the last three majors.
