Race Preview
The G1 Pegasus World Cup has been won by some of the most celebrated horses in recent memory, with the roll of honor including names such as Arrogate, Gun Runner, and Life Is Good. This year’s field makes for a fascinating renewal, with each having different questions to answer.
Locked was consistent in some high-quality races in his two-year-old season, which included a win in the G1 Breeders’ Futurity and a third in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. But, he contended with a lengthy absence after winning the G2 Cigar Mile in December 2024. However, there could be a fear of him bouncing on Saturday.

White Abarrio is undeniably the horse with the class this weekend. The 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner never reached the same heights last season, and was well beaten at the top level in major Grade 1s. Has a recent run at Gulfstream under his belt, and could be the likely win play back at his beloved Gulfstream.
Saudi Crown has progressed well for Brad Cox, but he is prone to throwing in a shocking run, evidenced by his last placed finish in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Firmly got back on track at the end of last year with a dominant win in the Tenacious Stakes.
Mystik Dan was one of the stories of last season, winning the G1 Kentucky Derby by a nose from Sierra Leone. Followed that effort up with a decent second in the G1 Preakness, before bombing out in the G1 Belmont Stakes. Was disappointing in the G1 Malibu last month, but holds interesting claims once again now back up in trip.
Pegasus World Cup Picks
A wide open Pegasus World Cup could be won by four-year-old filly Power Squeeze this weekend. She was excellent in stakes company last season, winning the G1 Alabama from Candied by a head. Returned after a break with a fine showing over a mile at Gulfstream last month, narrowly edged out by Windy Walk. Up in trip again, and has the figures to play a leading role at a big price.
