  • The Blue Jays took down the Brewers, 3-1, on Thursday.
  • New York defeated the Phillies, winning by a score of 4-2.
  • The Mets are 22-13 in their all-time history against Toronto.

The Blue Jays (30-27) and the Mets (30-27) will meet for an interleague matchup. Both teams are in contention, but haven’t been able to win consistently. New York has heated up lately, while Toronto slides.

Preview

Toronto picked up the series win over the Brewers on Thursday, as they continue to fight their way through a stacked AL East division. After going 8-16 from May 1 to 25, the Blue Jays are hoping to get back on track in June. They’ve won 4 of their last 6 games, but face some tough upcoming opponents. If Toronto can make it through the first half of their month, their schedule softens considerably in late June.

The Mets swept the Phillies this week, climbing back into 2nd place in the NL East division. They sit 3.5 games out of 1st place, aiming to get back to the level of play that earned them 101 wins last season. New York had a slow start, but has now gone 10-4 in the last two weeks. If they can maintain their success against Toronto, they’ll have momentum as they get set for a key road series against the 1st-place Braves.

Prediction

These two teams have identical records and both have had large stretches of wins and losses this season. Currently, the Mets are the hotter team, though both teams have played well over the past week. With Justin Verlander (4.80 ERA) on the mound at home for New York, I like their chances of picking up the win. It should be a close game, with Chris Bassitt (3.80 ERA) on the mound for Toronto. I’ll take the Mets here.
