  • The Guardians took down the Angels, 4-3, on Sunday.
  • Chicago came up short against the Astros, losing 4-3.
  • The White Sox are 1115-1111 in their all-time history against Cleveland.

The Guardians (19-21) and the White Sox (14-28) match up in an AL Central bout. Cleveland is trying to stay afloat for contention in a weak division, while Chicago is hoping to bounce back from a horrid start.

Preview

Cleveland earned a series win against the Angels with two victories over the weekend, after losing the first game on Friday. It was the first time the Guardians won a series against an out-of-division opponent in a full month, giving them a chance to heat back up with a very soft upcoming schedule. Cleveland needs to take advantage of their divisional games in a historically bad division, but has gone just 4-5 against them.

The White Sox are in an even worse spot than the Guardians, sitting in the same division, but with an even worse record. It’s been a season of continuing disappointments for a Chicago team that won the division with 93 wins just two seasons ago. Their offense has been even more troubling as of late. In their last 5 games, they’ve scored just 11 runs, while allowing 23 runs. They need to turn it around before it’s too late.

Prediction

I don’t trust any AL Central teams this year, as it remains as the worst division in baseball. Despite that, the Guardians have been noticeably stronger than the White Sox this season. They will also have a strong starter in Shane Bieber (2.61 ERA) on the mound for this game. The Guardians should have a major advantage over Chicago’s Lance Lynn (7.51 ERA). I’ll take Cleveland to win this one by a handful of runs.
