Game Preview
Texas has now won 4 of their last 5 games, picking up a series-clinching victory against the Mariners on Wednesday. Their offense has been exceptional as of late. In their last 11 games, the Rangers have gone 8-3, while scoring 71 runs and allowing just 43. They remain in 1st place in the AL West, sitting 2.5 games ahead of the Angels. Texas will attempt to keep their hot play going against the bottom-dwelling Athletics.
The Athletics have seen a historic level of futility so far this season, starting 8-30 with a -142 run differential. There are major questions being raised in Oakland about every aspect of the team, from the ownership, to management, players, and even the future of their existence in the city of Oakland itself. I’m not sure anything can salvage this season for the A’s, but they can still play spoiler in the games they win.
Prediction
Despite their home-field advantage, it’d feel foolish to bet on a team that has only won 8 of 38 games so far this season. Instead, I feel confident betting in a Rangers team that has been red-hot on offense lately, and will be starting a capable Nathan Eovaldi (3.22 ERA) in this game. While it’s not impossible for the Athletics to come away with a win here, I certainly wouldn’t expect it. I’ll take Texas to sweep this series.
