Series Preview
Phoenix won 4 straight games against the Clippers after dropping Game 1 at home, surging to a 4-1 series victory. Kevin Durant continued to produce at an elite level, averaging 28.4 ppg, 7.6 rpg, and 6.2 apg in the series against Los Angeles. Devin Booker was even more impressive, going on a scoring frenzy, averaging 37.2 ppg, 6.4 apg, and 5 rpg. The Suns will need those two to continue producing against the Nuggets.
The Nuggets had very little issue taking down the Timberwolves in the first round, winning the series in 5 games. Denver got meaningful impacts from throughout their roster, but especially from superstar Nikola Jokić, who averaged 26.2 ppg, 12.4 rpg, and 9 apg in their series against Minnesota. The Nuggets will be relying on Jokić to continue his elite play on both sides of the ball against a very dangerous Suns team.
Picks
The Nuggets have been one of the best teams in the league over the past several seasons. Unfortunately, they’ve never been able to turn one of those seasons into an NBA Finals appearance. While that could change as the 1-seed this season, they face a very tough pace with the Suns, Warriors, and Lakers still alive. The combination of Durant and Booker may be too much. I think the Suns pull off the series upset.
