  • Utah took down #22 UCLA on Saturday, winning by a score of 14-7.
  • Oregon State failed to keep up with #21 Washington State, losing 38-35.
  • These two teams last met on October 1, 2022, in a game Utah won 42-16.

Week 5 of the college football season is here. Let’s preview the upcoming Utah vs Oregon State matchup.

Preview

Utah continued to impress on defense last week, holding top-25 UCLA to just 7 points as they improved to 4-0 on the season. The continued storyline for Utah this season has been their fantastic defense aiding an offense that is without starting QB Cameron Rising. If the Utes can pull off a win this week, they may be undefeated when Rising returns. Utah’s CFP hopes hinge on the continued success of their elite defense.

Oregon State was thoroughly outmatched by Washington State last week. They entered the 4th quarter trailing 35-14, before making the final score a bit closer. The Beavers will have a great chance to rebound from that loss at home this week, with #10 Utah coming into town. Oregon State’s defense was shredded last week, so they’ll be itching to prove that they still have the Pac-12’s top defensive unit against the Utes.

Prediction

This should be an incredibly interesting matchup. I have been beyond impressed by Utah’s defense this season, after watching them shut down Florida and UCLA. That being said, their offense has not looked quite as good. They’ll be heading on the road to face a capable Oregon State defense that will be fighting as hard as possible after last week’s result. I’m leaning towards taking the Beavers to win this one at home.
