Green Bay clobbered the Cowboys in Dallas during their Wild Card matchup. They jumped out to a 28-0 lead, thanks to a complete performance by both the offense and defense, and never looked back. The Packers have now won five straight games against the Cowboys and 10 of their last 11. They’ll be aiming to carry their momentum into what should be a considerably tougher challenge against the stacked 49ers.
The 49ers had the week off to rest after claiming the NFC’s #1 seed. They’ll host a Packers team that was the first 7-seed to make the 2nd round of the playoffs. San Francisco will need to get off to a hot start to overwhelm the Packers and avoid a disappointing result. They’ll have the benefit of one of the NFL’s most complete rosters, featuring a very capable defense, offensive line, and several elite skill position players.
Prediction
With how well the Packers played last week, they should certainly be considered as a legitimate candidate to pull off the upset. That being said, the 49ers have looked like the best team in the NFC for months, and have the depth to avoid collapsing like the Cowboys did. I would avoid taking San Francisco to cover a dangerously large spread, but I do feel pretty confident in taking them to win this game at home outright.
