Game Preview
Denver Broncos
Sean Payton’s crew tops the AFC West for now and has four straight wins. The most recent was against the Kansas City Chiefs at the Mile High, 28-24. They weren’t better than the Chiefs, yet more rational and efficient in the crucial moments.
Denver’s offense struggles (21.5 ppg) and is pretty mediocre, though; this team wins games because it manages to compensate for that on the defensive end. The general stats don’t show that, but the Broncos have a very good run defense that allows only 0.8 rush TDs per game.
Carolina Panthers
Even though the Panthers’ offense still sits among the top ten, with 25.4 points per game, the defense is 28th in the NFL wth 27.6 ppg. Carolina suffered back-to-back defeats, one at home vs. the Buccaneers, 43-13, and the other in Green Bay on last week’s TNF, 27-19.
However, this team lacks size and power. It allows 140.7 rushing yards (30th), and its red zone defense is terrible, with 80% of the rival’s trips there resulting in a touchdown. This clearly indicates that the team isn’t strong enough. It’s why the Panthers’ odds of reaching the playoffs are plummeting as we speak.
Broncos vs. Panthers Predictions
Broncos’ physicality will play the main role here. Carolina’s O-line has been in decline over the last few weeks, struggling to protect Bryce Young, who was sacked 11 times in the past two meetings. Young has already absorbed 23 sacks, the second-most in the NFL. Denver knows how to exploit situations like these, which is why we bet on them to win.
