Team News

The New York Rangers will feel as though they are within two games of reaching the next round of the playoffs. That feat could be achieved with victories in their two home games against the New Jersey Devils across the next four days or so.

The Rangers once again showed their class in game two of the series, as they moved into a 2-0 series advantage after picking up a second straight success in New Jersey. New York fell behind in the opening period, but they powered back with three goals in the second before two further efforts were netted in the final frame.

Chris Kreider scored twice for the Rangers in the success on Thursday, while Patrick Kane ended the night with a goal and two assists. Adam Fox also recorded two assists, while Kaapo Kakko and Vladimir Tarasenko found the net in the win for the Rangers.

The Devils face a massive uphill struggle to reach the next round, as they will likely need to win both games at Madison Square Garden. Erik Haula delivered the brightest moment in front of their home fans on Thursday, but it counted for very little. Vitek Vanecek endured a terrible night in the Devils goal, as he made just 25 saves to average .833.

Picks

The Devils have won their previous two playoff games at Madison Square Garden, but both came in 2012. That will count for very little this weekend against a Rangers side that is showing all the characteristics of a team that could go very far in the playoffs this season.
