Group E: Meet The Teams
Germany
- Manager: Julian Nagelsmann
- Odds to Win World Cup: +1600
- Best World Cup Performance: Winners (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014)
- Key Player: Jamal Musiala
Germany are one of the most successful nations in World Cup history, but their recent record at the competition is poor after suffering group stage exits in the last two editions.
However, the nation appears to be back on an upward curve after reaching the Nations League Finals last summer and winning each of their last eight internationals. A lack of goals in striking positions is a concern, but their creativity will catch the eye with talented stars such as Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz likely to play key roles.
Curacao
- Manager: Dick Advocaat
- Odds to Win World Cup: +5000000
- Best World Cup Performance: Debutants
- Key Player: Tahith Chong
Curacao will make World Cup history this summer by becoming the smallest nation in terms of population and size to compete at the competition. The nation have exceeded all expectations to reach the tournament, and they recorded seven wins in ten qualifiers.
Recent form would be a negative, losing back-to-back fixtures against China and Australia in March. However, Advocaat is one of the most experienced managers at this summer’s World Cup, and he will have a game plan to avoid embarrassment.
Ivory Coast
- Manager: Emerse Fae
- Odds to Win World Cup: +25000
- Best World Cup Performance: Group Stage (2006, 2010, 2014)
- Key Player: Yan Diomande
The Ivory Coast will be one of the most interesting dark horses in Group E. The African nation showed bright attacking intent throughout their run to the quarterfinals at AFCON, and they have scored five goals in back-to-back wins against South Korea and Scotland.
A counter-attacking style is likely to cause issues for opponents, while Yan Diomande will be one to watch after scoring 13 goals in all competitions for RB Leipzig in 2025-26.
Ecuador
- Manager: Sebastian Beccacece
- Odds to Win World Cup: +10000
- Best World Cup Performance: Round of 16 (2006)
- Key Player: Moises Caicedo
I think Ecuador are the most interesting outsider in the World Cup this year. The South American cruised throughout qualification, finishing second only to Argentina after winning eight of their 18 matches.
Most crucial was their excellent defensive record, allowing just two goals. Wins over Argentina and Uruguay in qualifying show that they have the quality to threaten a good run this summer, while they have since shown their ability in back-to-back draws against the highly-ranked Netherlands and Morocco.
World Cup 2026 Picks: Who Will Win Group E?
This is a more competitive group than the odds suggest, with the possession-focused Germany likely to find matches against Ecuador and the Ivory Coast challenging. The defensively strong South Americans could be the value play to upset the odds and win Group E.
