Group H: Meet The Teams
Spain
- Manager: Luis de la Fuente
- Odds to Win World Cup: +475
- Best World Cup Performance: Winners (2010)
- Key Player: Lamine Yamal
There have been few more dominant nations in Europe over the last three years than Spain. It could be argued that the youthful squad is still improving, and the confidence within the camp will be high following victories in EURO 2024 and last summer’s Nations League.
Spain’s dominance has seen them score at least twice in all but one of their last ten matches, including a 3-0 win over Serbia earlier this year. Lamine Yamal is their gem, with the teenager registering a staggering 27 goal involvements in 28 La Liga games for Barcelona last season.
Uruguay
- Manager: Marcelo Bielsa
- Odds to Win World Cup: +10000
- Best World Cup Performance: Winners (1930, 1950)
- Key Player: Federico Valverde
Two-time world champions Uruguay will keep Spain honest in Group H. However, the nation will need to get back on track following a group stage exit in 2022.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side finished fourth in South American qualification, winning seven of their 18 matches. The retirements of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have left them light at the top of the field, reflected by the fact that they scored just 22 goals in the qualifying campaign.
Cape Verde
- Manager: Bubista
- Odds to Win World Cup: +200000
- Best World Cup Performance: Debutants
- Key Player: Logan Costa
Cape Verde will make their World Cup debut this summer, but they will be massive outsiders to cause one of the biggest shocks in sporting history and reach the knockout round. Bubista should be credited for the excellent form shown, with the African nation winning seven of their ten qualifiers.
However, defensive weakness was a trend throughout that phase, allowing eight goals. Against higher quality opposition this summer, they are expected to struggle.
Saudi Arabia
- Manager: Georgios Donis
- Odds to Win World Cup: +75000
- Best World Cup Performance: Round of 16 (1994)
- Key Player: Firas Al-Buraikan
Saudi Arabia created one of the long-lasting memories from the 2022 World Cup after beating Argentina in the group stage. However, a step up in performance level will be required if they are to replicate that feat against Spain and Uruguay. The Asian nation dominated in qualification, avoiding defeat in 14 of their 18 matches.
But, their recent form ahead of their opener against Uruguay is very concerning after losing each of their last three, and failing to score in two matches over that period.
World Cup 2026 Picks: Who Will Win Group H?
The top two nations in Group H are far stronger than Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia in every position. Therefore, we expect Spain to progress as group winners, with Uruguay finishing as the runners-up.
