What Does ‘Proxy’ Mean in Sports Betting?

what-does-proxy-mean

In the US sports betting world, a “Proxy” is simply a person you hire to place your bets or submit your contest picks for you when you cannot be there physically.

Think of them as your “designated representative” in Las Vegas.

They are most famous for helping out-of-state bettors enter the massive football handicapping contests, like the Westgate SuperContest or Circa Million.

How It Works (The Vegas Contest Loophole)

If you live in New York but want to enter a huge Las Vegas football contest, you have a problem: federal law says you can’t bet across state lines, and contest rules usually require weekly picks to be submitted in person (or on a mobile app inside Nevada).

Here is where the proxy comes in:

  1. You Fly to Vegas: You must show up in person once to register for the contest and officially sign the paperwork with your proxy.
  2. You Fly Home: You go back to New York.
  3. You Send Your Picks: Every week during the NFL season, you email or text your picks to your proxy.
  4. They Submit Them: The proxy (who lives in Vegas) physically walks into the casino (or uses the app within state lines) and submits your picks for you.

Yes! But only for specific contests.

Major contests like the SuperContest and Circa Million explicitly allow proxies in their official rules. It is a completely legitimate, regulated service.
