What Is a ‘Teaser Card Bet’ in Sports Betting?

A “Teaser Card Bet” is the physical, paper version of the teaser, and it operates by slightly different rules than the digital version you see on apps.
It is a daily list of games with fixed odds that you pick up at a sportsbook counter (mostly in Las Vegas).
The “Fixed Odds” Advantage (Stale Lines)
This is the main reason pros look at them.
- The Card: Is printed early in the week (usually Wednesday morning). The point spreads are locked in ink. They do not change.
- The Board: Is digital and changes constantly.
- The Trick: If the Chiefs are -3 on the printed card, but news breaks on Friday that moves the Chiefs to -7 on the main board, you can still bet the Chiefs at -3 by filling out the card. You are betting a “stale” number that provides huge value.
The “Ties Lose” Rule (The Trap)
This is the catch you have to watch out for.
- App Teaser: If one of your games ends in a Tie (Push), that leg is usually just removed (a 3-team teaser becomes a 2-team teaser). You stay alive.
- Teaser Card: On most paper cards, the rule is “Ties Lose.” If you pick 4 winners and 1 tie, your entire ticket is a loser.
“Higher or Lower”
As you noted, the card lists games where the odds might be “higher or lower” than the live board. This is just another way of describing that stale line value. You are hunting for discrepancies between the paper in your hand and the LED screen on the wall.
