Previous Time Person of the Year Winners

The Time Person of the Year has been awarded since 1927. Politicians have dominated the roll of honor, with the President of the United States winning 24 of the accolades.

Other national leaders, such as Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler, have also won the award. Charles Lindbergh was the first winner of the award after completing the first solo transatlantic flight in May 1927.

However, in previous years, an ‘idea’ has also been crowned the Time Person of the Year, with the Architects of AI winning the accolade in 2025. A full list of the recent winners can be found below:

  • Architects of AI (2025)
  • Donald Trump (2024)
  • Taylor Swift (2023)
  • Spirit of Ukraine (2022)
  • Volodymyr Zelenskyy (2021)
  • Elon Musk (2020)

Who Are The Leading Contenders for The Time Person of the Year 2026?

While we are just three months into 2026, the betting already has Donald Trump as the favorite to win the award for a third time. Trump’s foreign policy has made international headlines throughout the calendar year, with the war against Iran making the news daily.

Technology could once again reign supreme in 2026, with AI ranking among the current market leaders alongside former winner Elon Musk. British broadcaster David Attenborough is one of the world’s most-loved figures, and the environmental journalist turns 100 in May.

Pop superstar Taylor Swift is never far from the headlines, and she could be a dark horse to win the accolade for a third time with a global tour and wedding on the agenda.
