Race Preview

The competitive F1 action reaches its penultimate round this weekend, as the Qatar Grand Prix is staged at the Lusail International Circuit. It is one of the most gruelling races of the season, with the field competing over a total distance of 308.611 km, with a total of 57 laps being completed.

Max Verstappen won the race last year, finishing four seconds clear of Oscar Piastri, with Lando Norris finishing back in third. Once again, this weekendā€™s race will be a big point scoring opportunity, with the Sprint Race staged on Saturday, before the Grand Prix on Sunday.

With Verstappenā€™s fourth championship wrapped up, all the attention over the final two rounds of races will be on the battle for the Constructorsā€™ Championship. McLaren limited the damage in Las Vegas last weekend, with Norris and Piastri finishing in sixth and seventh.

However, the track layout should favor the McLaren drivers this weekend, meaning Ferrariā€™s big aim will be to take their fight to the final weekend. Carlos Sainz and Leclerc enjoyed excellent weekends in Vegas, taking third and fourth.

Mercedes was the surprise package in Sin City, with George Russell leading home a one-two for the team in a forgettable campaign. Neither driver knew why the car was so fast in Vegas, but the colder temperatures could have brought the best out of the temperamental car.

Qatar Grand Prix Picks

This weekend is a huge opportunity for McLaren to put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack in the Constructorsā€™ battle. However, Ferrari could also be suited by the circuit. Therefore, the preference is for Carlos Sainz to claim the race win before departing the team next month.
